Alumnus-owned enterprise named Exporter of the Year in Guatemala
On October 4, the President of Guatemala Otto Pérez Molina presented ENLASA S.A., an enterprise founded and owned by EARTH Alumnus José Antonio Pacheco Tzul (‘94, Guatemala), with the award of Exporter of the Year. ENLASA, which was also recognized in the manufacturing category, was selected by the Guatemalan Association of Exporters (Agexport) to receive this national award, the highest honor bestowed on Guatemalan companies for their initiative and success in competing globally.

Founded by Pacheco in 2000, Enlace Agropecuario S.A. (ENLASA, www.grupoenlasa.com) is dedicated to the formulation and distribution of agricultural inputs, as well as to providing technical assistance for their products. ENLASA has developed 12 different product lines for plant nutrition and protection, with approximately 100 products in total. With operations in 10 countries including: Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, Belize, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, Ecuador, Trinidad and Tobago, and with current expansion plans for Chile, Colombia, and Brazil, the company employees approximately 200 administrators and technicians including 20 EARTH alumni. In 2009, the company established the ENLASA Foundation, which seeks to improve access to higher education for economically-disadvantaged young people, providing critical scholarship support to EARTH.
Reflecting on being named Exporter of the Year, Pacheco remarked: “ENLASA is a product of EARTH and we hope to inspire more colleagues to start businesses or form highly productive organizations under the solid philosophy of EARTH. We also recognize that these achievements are the result of all who form part of our great team (many of whom are EARTH alumni) and our local and international network of business partners.”
Me parece interesante lo que sucedió con ENLASA. Nosotros, ONG SEMILLAS PARA EL FUTURO, trasbajamos en Chocolá, Suchitepéquez, Guatemala un proyecto de desarrollo rural y quisiera tener contactos con ENLASA, para apoyarnos mutuamente.
