Hugo is of Venezuelan origin and a naturalized Honduran citizen. He is an Agronomist Engineer graduated from the National Experimental University of Táchira (UNET), Venezuela, holds a Master’s degree in Horticulture from the Universidad Centroccidental “Lisandro Alvarado” (UCLA), Venezuela, and a PhD in Tropical Horticulture, specializing in Plant Nutrition, from Imperial College, England.
For more than 30 years, together with a broad team of farmers, students, colleagues, organized communities, public and private institutions, academia, donors, and NGOs, Hugo has designed, introduced, implemented, and developed numerous projects in major vegetable, fruit, and crop production areas in Venezuela, Tonga, Colombia, and Honduras.
At the same time, he has been involved in technical assistance and consultancy for project development under a holistic and integrative approach, promoting catalytic strategies for the circular economy. His academic work has focused on ecology, soils, tropical crops, and horticulture. He has served as Head of Commercial Vegetable Production, Coordinator of the Horticultural Value Chain, and Project Leader at Zamoran University, working with partners such as USAID, Walmart, and WorldVeg, among others.
Subsequently, he developed projects with the European Union and carried out private consultancy work in Honduras and Venezuela, contributing to the sustainable, resilient, and healthy development of Tropical Agriculture.
