Arturo Condo President

Dr. Arturo Condo is the President of EARTH University, an innovative global institution based in Costa Rica that prepares young leaders from across the world as change agents for advancing sustainable development and nature-positive food systems. During his tenure at EARTH, Dr. Condo led the creation of EARTH Futures, a global center which aims to transform rural areas and food systems for the better. He has also guided the launch of EARTH Ventures, an initiative to launch new businesses with purpose that also contribute to the long-term sustainability of the University.

 

He served as President of INCAE Business School, a leading international business school based in Costa Rica, between 2007 and 2015. Prior to his role as President, Dr. Condo served for two decades as Dean of the MBA program, Dean of Innovation and Development, Director of the Latin American Center for Competitiveness and Sustainable Development (CLACDS) and Professor in strategy, competitiveness, and sustainable development.

Dr. Condo is a member of the Inaugural Class of the Central American Leadership Initiative (CALI), an Aspen Institute Fellowship.  In 2007, the World Economic Forum recognized him as a Young Global Leader (YGL), a global network that seeks to “recognize and acknowledge the most extraordinary leaders of the world under the age of 40”. As part of the YGL community, Dr. Condo was co-founder of the YGL Business Oath and later a founding member of the Advisory Board of the Global Business Oath Project, projects that aspire to promote ethical behavior of business leaders around the world.  As part of the World Economic Forum, he has been a member of the Latin American Competitiveness Lab and the Global Agenda Council on the Future of Jobs. He is a member of the General Assembly of The Commons Project, a global organization aimed at unlocking the potential of technology for the common good.

 

He is author and co-author of numerous articles, books and teaching cases in business strategy, international business, competitiveness, and sustainable development. He has a Doctorate in business strategy and competitiveness from Harvard Business School and was recognized as a “Distinguished Scholar” in his MBA at INCAE. He has an electronic engineering degree from ESPOL University in his native Ecuador.

 

Dr. Condo is passionate about education as well as Latin America’s increasing role in the world. Since 2015, he is a member of the Inter-American Dialogue.  As a strong believer in the power of youth to change the world, he became the Founding Curator of the San Jose Hub of the Global Shapers Community, and the Country Chair for Costa Rica of Global Dignity, an organization promoting the dignity of every person. Dr. Condo’s work also focuses on gender equality. He founded INCAE’s Center for Women’s Leadership and serves as a board member of Vital Voices Costa Rica.

 

He also serves as Senior Institute Associate of Harvard’s Institute for Strategy and Competitiveness, a think-tank led by Professor Michael Porter.  He has worked as a consultant in strategic planning and global strategy for firms and industry organizations in Latin America and Asia and is a member of the Board of Directors of Grupo Bancolombia, the largest bank in Colombia.

 

Ecuadorian by birth, Latin American at heart, Dr. Condo lives in Costa Rica, is married, and has three children.
