Tropical Forestry

Victor is Professor of Tropical Forestry for third-year students. He is in charge of the Forestry Scenario in the Work Experience and Professional Experience courses. He leads the Geomatics and Remote Sensing Center, as well as a long-term agroforestry trial based on F1 hybrids of Coffea arabica (Esperanza L4A5), contributing in an innovative way to the development of sustainable agroforestry systems and the application of cutting-edge technology. He is a Forestry Engineer from the Universidad de los Andes in Venezuela, Master of Science in Forest Management with emphasis on Forest Breeding from the Center for Forestry and Environmental Postgraduate Studies, ULA, in Venezuela, and holds a PhD in Agricultural Sciences from the University of Costa Rica. His expertise covers key areas such as forest inventory, environmental project management and spatial data management using advanced geostatistical techniques.

In the field of precision forestry, Victor has integrated the use of drones as an essential tool to optimize forest management by capturing aerial imagery and analyzing spectral data for forest health assessment, growth monitoring, and sustainable management planning.  As an educator, his pedagogical philosophy focuses on meaningful learning through hands-on experimentation. He seeks for students to gain cutting-edge technical skills, encouraging the use of emerging technologies, such as drones, in data-driven decision making for sustainable natural resource management.

Professor Morales Peña is committed to the integration of precision technologies in tropical forestry and to training professionals capable of facing environmental and productive challenges in a constantly changing world.
