Mildred graduated from the University of Costa Rica and obtained her Ph.D. in Agricultural Engineering in a joint CATIE – Purdue University program. She trained in Renewable Energy (RE) technologies in several intensive seminars, including photovoltaic, solar thermal, wind, hydro, and biogas, with the Renewables Academy (RENAC) AG in Berlin and CIPSEM in Dresden, Germany. She completed the Solar Professionals Academy of the Americas program at Solar Energy International in the U.S. She has taught in several universities for more than 20 years and is the Co-Director of the Center for Renewable Energies Research and Development (CIDER) at EARTH University. She is a professor in Renewable Energy, teaching courses such as Physics applied to RE, General Physics, Solar Energy for Rural Communities, and other RE technologies, in addition to supporting graduation projects and different academic experiences. She lectures in seminars and workshops at EARTH and other international academies, including the Renewables Academy in Berlin. Her trainees have included technicians, people from rural communities, and indigenous people from Central America and Africa. Mildred is also an international consultant on renewable energy and sustainability issues.
