Applied Ecology
Alex is the Applied Ecology professor in the third year and participates in Work Experience as part of the PSAA area, responsible for the botanical and ethnobotanical gardens. She also conducts research into the perceptions and value of ecosystem services and secondary forest restoration in Sarapiqui, Costa Rica. She is from the UK and has a degree in Physical Geography and a Ph.D. in Biology from UCLA, where she investigated the impacts of climate change on the distribution of tropical plants. The principal objective of her course is to help students understand the impacts of different forms of agricultural management on biodiversity, the impacts of Climate change and for students to develop critical analysis and synthesis skills using ecological data to administer environmental resources in a sustainable manner.
