Kirstos is from Dukem, a very rural community in the mountains of Ethiopia, where over 80% of the population lives on agriculture.

He has always enjoyed farming with his family, and especially likes planting crops like barley, wheat and maize. Kirstos is confident that his four years at EARTH University will give him the tools he needs to create more sustainable farming methods in Ethiopia.

“After graduation, I will not be just Kirstos, I will be an Agricultural Engineer. I will go to my country and help them to modernize and improve their systems. Currently the Ethiopian farming method uses oxen and plows; it is a very backwards system. I want to improve this and other things with the all the experience I will learn at EARTH. I will be able to help so many people.”
