Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program
César Velásquez / Guatemala

Class of 2018-2021

Scholar: Carolina Aguilar Salazar Scholar: Chokera Rufaro

César came to EARTH from San Pedro Sacatepequez in San Marcos, Guatemala, just across the border from Chiapas, Mexico. His high school education at a public, three-year technical boarding school specializing in plant and animal agriculture both introduced him to EARTH University and helped him prepare to pursue its academic rigor. During his high school years he led a greenhouse project to grow sweet peppers, and spent his last four months in a leather leaf ornamental production internship.

César hopes to work within renewable energies and organic agriculture. Upon graduating, he would like to pursue his master’s degree in sustainable agriculture, organic production, renewable energy technologies, or a similar field.
