Chokera is from a rural town in Manicaland province in Zimbabwe. On their family farm, they grow corn and a variety of other vegetables and raise goats and chickens. Agriculture has always been a part of her life. CAMFED sponsored Chokera through high school.. She was part of GEM club (Girls Education Movement), was chosen as Head Girl, and was responsible for organizing all the prefects.

When Chokera found out about EARTH through CAMFED, she knew she wanted to apply. “In my area, most girls do not reach the level [of education] I did. Many girls are married at an early age. What I am eager to do is empower women to own land and make their own products, and so make women be seen as people. It is very rare for a woman to own land in my country, and yet they are normally the ones paying school fees for their children. I want to be a role model to them.”
