Yvette was raised in the capital city of Kigali, Rwanda, where she attended a French-speaking elementary school and an English-speaking high school that admits all students with full scholarships. At the school she was active in a club called Girl App. “Sometimes in the schools, boys think that they are over everyone, so at our school we had Girl App to encourage girls to do things like play sports, instruments, and participate in everything.”

Yvette heard about EARTH from a presentation at her school by an admissions representative. “In Rwanda, everything is just theory learning. Here you take theory and go the field and learn how to do it.” Yvette is committed to improving education in Rwanda, especially for little girls, and improving the state of agriculture. She is interested in beginning a project planting legumes for her community because they are a good source of nutrition. “Agriculture is something that allows me to benefit from helping my community.”
