Suyitza is from the village of Marchena, in an extremely rural area of Panama. The residents of her community depend on a communal aquifer for potable water, have no electricity and use horses as their main mode of transportation.
She is excited to be at EARTH and practicing her passion for agriculture because she has “always loved to be outside and in nature.” She adds that, “I don’t like big cities and all their noise. I grew up in the country; it is where I belong.”
After graduation Suyitza’s dream is to “bring back knowledge to the farmers and producers in my area. Right now, they are doing things in a way that is not healthy for the environment, because they simply don’t know any other way to do it.”
