Stephanny’s family lives in Filadelfia, Guanacaste in Costa Rica.

During her final year of secondary school, Stephanny spent two months assisting in sea turtle conservation at Las Baulas National Marine Park (Parque Nacional Marino Las Baulas in Spanish). At the sight of a turtle, Stephanny realized that “sea turtles are creatures of habit. They return to the very spot where they were born to make their nest, but if they see lights, or see an obstacle that wasn’t there when they were born, they turn around and break the reproduction cycle. I want to protect them and do even more to help.” Stephanny’s desire to help led her to decide to study agronomy and “in Costa Rica, when you want to study agronomy, you opt for the best university, which is EARTH University.”

Guanacaste has a very dry climate and forest fires are a constant threat. Stephanny plans to invent something to stop the fires. Having studied tourism during secondary school, Stephanny also hopes to one day combine agronomy and tourism, since tourism is a vital part of Costa Rica’s economy.
