Mika is from the village of Nkhata-bay in the northern region of Malawi. In 2013, Mika heard about EARTH University through a friend and decided to do some research. I am very interested technology and renewable energy, so when I saw the biodigesters and solar panels on the website, I thought it was so great and I couldn’t wait to apply.”
Now that he is at EARTH, Mika is eager to get more hands-on experience in agriculture to complement what he has already learned in his high school agricultural science classes. One of his specific goals is to “figure out, in the next four years, which crops could be planted to replace tobacco” because in Malawi, “we export a lot of tobacco but it is very unstable and many growers have started to give up and burn their fields.”
“I want to be an innovator: I want to take things and make them better and introduce new practices and knowledge to my country. I’m not afraid to take risks.”
