Karen is from the town of Cerro Punto in the agricultural region of Chiriqui.
Karen attended an agricultural high school, and first came to EARTH as part of an internship in peri-urban gardening, which she called “an incredible experience.” Her favorite part about studying agriculture is “everything that has to do with crops, seeds and the environment.”
She is excited to be studying at EARTH because “Panama is a country that needs many more people trained in agriculture. My community, for example, uses very outdated agricultural practices with lots of fertilizers and chemicals. I would like to implement more agro-ecological methods and show everyone that it isn’t so hard to be environmentally friendly.”
