Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program
Armand Yambisa / Zambia

Class of 2017-2020

Scholar: Arely Farissa Flores Herrera Scholar: Arnold Katende

Armand grew up in a small town near Lusaka, Zambia. Beginning in 8th grade, he earned a scholarship to attend a boarding school about an hour away from his home. “In 10th grade, I took agriculture science as an elective, and I loved it so much. I saw the opportunity to apply for Zambia Climate Change Conference organized by UNICEF on climate change and sustainability, which I was accepted to and attended in 2011. It was so inspiring that when I came back, I knew that’s what I wanted to study.”

His passion for the environment led him to apply to EARTH. Armand has big plans for the future of his hometown. “In my community I want to own my farms, employ the youth, teach them sustainable agriculture practices, and empower them to start their own businesses as well.”
