City: La Unión
Age: 24

Class of 2014-2017

Scholar: Adonias Tafa Degefa Scholar: Alex Kyeyune

Adriana grew up in La Unión, Colombia. She always enjoyed helping on her grandfather’s farm where he kept horses and cows, and grew sugarcane, coffee, yucca, plantain and bananas.

Agronomists in Colombia tend to gravitate towards La Unión, which is one of the country’s largest fruit producing regions. As a result, there are already a number of programs working to solve contamination and production issues. After she graduates from EARTH University, Adriana wants to return to areas of greater need in Colombia. She plans to go “to the Caribbean Region and the Cauca Valley department to work with rural and indigenous communities to contribute to the development and sustainability of those areas.” Adriana dreams of creating farmers associations to unite producers, build trust and increase productivity and profitability.
