Nelby comes from the rural southwestern town of Santa Cruz, Muluá, in Guatemala. When a friend told her about EARTH’s innovative curriculum and hands-on class activities, she knew she had to apply. She has a strong background in agriculture and entrepreneurship.
In her high school fieldwork, she showed leadership in cultivation projects, and outside of school, using the knowledge from her classes she prepared and sold sausage and cake. While at EARTH, she hopes to learn to address real-world problems, especially related to the intertwining issues of animal, plant, and human health.
She also embraces the cross-cultural learning that an international environment offers. Nelby dreams of returning to her community and improving people’s quality of life through her work.
