Tanyaradzwa was born in Masvingo but moved to the city of Chinhoyi before starting school.
Tanya chose EARTH because, “Here, you are exposed to real life and can gain practical experience. I like that there is only one program here because it’s so different from other universities, I feel that I will learn everything there is to know about agriculture.”
Her ultimate goal is to become an expert in a variety of modern farming techniques and bring that knowledge with her back to Zimbabwe. “I’m especially interested in the science and chemistry behind crops because that knowledge is lacking in my country. In Zimbabwe we have a monoculture agriculture system; basically all we grow is maize because it is our staple food. I would love to get people to think out of the box and discover all of the crops we can cultivate to diversify and improve our food sustainability.”
