Seventeen year-old Shahidah, from Linstead, Jamaica, is the youngest person in her EARTH class. In high school, she was the president of her school’s 4-H club, participated in debate club, and represented her school at the United Nation Assembly. Her work with 4-H provided many volunteer opportunities, including helping students in need raise funds for their school fees.
Shahidah heard about EARTH through 4-H advertising. The more she learned about agriculture the more she wanted to pursue it as a career. “It’s the way people live. I just fell in love with it. Seeing what farmers are doing, how they’re helping other people, and what our country can produce, it is wonderful. I want to eventually get a job as a government authority in the agricultural sector, so that I can travel to farms and show them how to improve. I want to build up my community and help Jamaica.”
