Mukthaar is from the urban capital of Hargeisa in Somaliland. Although he grew up in the middle of the city, where his parents run a small store out of their house, he has always been interested in agriculture and helped cultivate crops on his aunt’s farm during vacations.
He chose EARTH University because of its entrepreneurial emphasis, noting that it would be an excellent opportunity to learn how to improve his family’s business and help give them a better life.
Above all, Mukhtaar is proud and passionate about his homeland, and wants to return home and help the people of his country life themselves out of poverty. He dreams of one day becoming involved in politics and helping Somaliland become a peaceful and prosperous place. “Studying agricultural doesn’t mean you have to own your own farm. You can work with communities and make a real difference.”
