Gerard is from the town of Kabarore, in the eastern province of Rwanda. He has been an orphan since he was 8 years old. Gerard, his little sister and elder sister were raised by their aunt in a nearby village, which is where he first began to love and appreciate agriculture. He cultivated many different kinds of crops to gain practice in the field, even though not all of his experiments were successful.
He wants to use the knowledge he gains at EARTH “to change the negative minds that say it can’t be done. I know that agriculture is about leadership and provides lessons that teach people how to deal with others, so I am expecting that being exposed to people from all over the world and with different ideas and backgrounds will benefit me greatly.”
Gerard is also determined to provide his sister with the same opportunity he has. “As long as I have life in my body, my younger sister will go to college. I want her to live a life full of joy.”
