José and his parents live in Sarapiquí, Costa Rica. He first heard about EARTH University when he was nine-years-old and visited EARTH to gather information for a science project.
José would like to “support other students the way The MasterCard Foundation is supporting me, support students who have the desire to study but don’t have the financial means. So I want to graduate, start my own company – I’ve always dreamed of owning my own dairy company – but ultimately work in order to support those students in need.” José plans to have Jersey cows at his future dairy, because they are more docile and easy to work with. They also produce creamy milk with a high fat content, two qualities that are valued more. In addition to the dairy he hopes to own, José still plans to follow through with a childhood dream of teaching farmers how to make the best use of their land to increase production and crop variety.
