Abigael grew up in a Maasai community in the Kajiado District in the southern part of Kenya’s Rift Valley.

Abigael has always enjoyed participating in activities sponsored by the community-driven reforestation initiative called the Green Belt Movement, started by the late Nobel Peace Prize winner Wangari Maathai.

The Kajiado District is rich in land, but the nomadic-pastoralists of Abigael’s community do not use it. Abigael wants to return to Kajiado after graduating from EARTH to teach the people how to use the land to its full potential and incorporate agriculture into their nomadic lifestyle. She also wants to reach out to the girls in her community, encouraging them to pursue education and to open their eyes to all the opportunities in the world.
