Jaqueline Vargas (’13, Costa Rica) and her project Sembrando Futuro Agritectura (Sowing Future Agritecture) have advanced to the finals of Seedstars Costa Rica, after beating out her competitors at the Huetar Norte regional round of the PROCOMER innovation competition.

Her project, a sustainable agriculture model, utilizes adaptable structures, solar panels and rainwater to benefit hydroponic crops.

“Thanks to Seedstars, we have the chance to reach new markets, make our work known and find support from investors,” Jaqueline mentioned to PROCOMER.

The two other regional winners include ZNP, an audiovisual production and promotion startup, and El Barco Technologies S.A., a small business that developed an app for sporting events.

The next regional rounds take place June 22 in the Brunca region and August 7 in the Chorotega region. The national round, September 25, will see Jaqueline go head-to-head against another EARTHian – Edison Doylet (’18, Ecuador) – and his regional-winning biodegradable alternative to plastic.
