Christiana Figueres, former executive secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, will serve as the keynote speaker at the inauguration of EARTH University’s second president, Dr. Arturo Condo, Thursday, March 9, at 10 a.m. Costa Rica time (11 a.m. EST).

Figueres, the leader credited with the successful brokering of the monumental 2015 Paris Climate Accords, has spent her professional life advocating for smart policy in the areas of climate change and clean energy. Watch her TED Talk below.

She is no stranger to EARTH University, having participated in 2015 in the Intergenerational Co-responsibility Meeting (ECOin) – a collaboration of the Costa Rican government, Ibero-American General Secretariat (SEGIB), and our University.

Following the inauguration, EARTH will host a special forum “EARTH University and the Challenges of Global Sustainability” that will feature the participation of Ana Helena Chacón, vice president of Costa Rica, and John McArthur, senior fellow in the Brookings Institution’s Global Economy and Development program and senior advisor on sustainable development to the UN Foundation, among others.
