EARTH University and the Renewables Academy (RENAC) in Berlin, Germany have just launched a distance learning course entitled “Specialization in Renewable Energies”. This innovative interdisciplinary program is designed to provide Latin American professionals with the competencies needed for a career in the renewable energy sector, which is expected to grow exponentially in the coming years as more countries make sustainable energy production a priority. The program covers the fundamentals of the technologies and systems being used today, in addition to the technical and economic aspects of planning and developing renewable energy projects.
The yearlong course begins on September 1 and offers a blended e-learning program that is ideal for working professionals: self-learning materials are combined with virtual classrooms, videos, discussion forums, self-assessment exercises and working groups to give students flexibility while still receiving support throughout the learning process.
In addition to the online component, students can choose to participate in an optional week of hands-on learning at the Center for Research and Development in Renewable Energies (CIDER) located on EARTH’s Guácimo campus. The week will include practical exercises as well as visits to renewable energy installations in Costa Rica, which will allow students to apply their knowledge and gain direct contact with the industry.
The collaboration between EARTH and RENAC ensures that students enrolled in this course will benefit from the University’s experienced professors, along with RENAC’s deep knowledge of renewable energies and connection to the industry: RENAC is an internationally recognized specialist in knowledge transfer of renewable energy and energy efficiency that has trained over 5,000 participants from 135 countries since 2008.
