This month, EARTH students from Rwanda and Kenya organized events to remember the victims of Rwanda’s genocide and the recent terrorist attacks at Garissa University in Kenya.

On April 7th, a candle-lit vigil and prayers were held at EARTH’s auditorium to commemorate the 1994 genocide which left over 1 million people dead, most notably from the Tutsi tribe.

On April 13th, Kenyan students also held a vigil and a night walk, in addition to inviting community members to add their own message to a board of “peace wishes” written by classmates in remembrance of the April 2nd attack at Garissa University, where terrorist group Al Shabaab killed 147 people, mostly students.

As a fellow international and multicultural university, and an entity that welcomes students from Rwanda and Kenya each year, EARTH University appreciates all these efforts from our students to promote peace and understanding about their cultures.
