EARTH visitors can enjoy a cup of coffee made by the hands of an expert: Marcela Solano is the barista at the Aromas Café, located on EARTH´s campus in Guácimo. On March 9 she placed first in the 2013 Barista Challenge (El Reto Barista 2013) that took place during the Transitarte festival in San José, Costa Rica.

This is the first barista contest in which Marcela has participated, “I had been to other competitions, to help other baristas but never as contestant” she said. “I believe I do my job well, but I had no one to measure my skills against to know if I was really doing it well or not,” explained Marcela, who now wants to take on challenges, gain experience and participate in more events.

Marcela took barista courses at the Icafé (Costa Rica Institute of Coffee) in 2010 and has been working at Aromas for two years. From June 18-20, she will participate in the barista finals, during the Hotel and Restaurant Fair (EXPHORE) and hopes to place in the top positions.
