Beethoven visits campus with Youth Symphony Orchestra

This week, for the ninth consecutive year EARTH is welcoming on its Guácimo campus Costa Rica’s Youth Symphony Orchestra for its annual training camp.

For some of the musicians, the visit marks their first opportunity to explore the campus.

Others, despite their young age, have already taken part in the activity for several years.

Such is the case of violinists Silvia Morera, 15 years old, and Alexa Conde, 18, who have both played music for more than a decade. They hope to enjoy the camp but also know it will mean hard work. They point out: “We have to do our best – otherwise we can’t enjoy it – and the concert will be the result”.

While at EARTH, the Youth Symphony Orchestra always offers a concert for a community in the Caribbean province of Limón. Guápiles was selected as this year’s venue, and on Thursday, January 10, at 7:00 p.m., the group will perform for free at the town’s Catholic Church.

The concert will feature the first two movements of Beethoven’s Seventh Symphony and a Rossini overture, among other pieces.
