As part of EARTH’s experiential learning model, third-year students spend seven weeks in Guanacaste, where they:
Experience the realities of the dry tropics first-hand by living
With host families in surrounding communities, they experience the daily life of a family from Guanacaste.
Apply their knowledge to a new environment and culture.
Students conduct mini-internships with local agricultural businesses and meet weekly to share their experiences, conduct research and receive support from EARTH faculty. Students gain experience in agricultural production in the dry tropics to supplement what they have learned in the humid tropical climate of the EARTH campus in Guácimo.
Work with communities to improve living standards.
Each student develops a community project during their stay in Guanacaste in partnership with community organizations and other development agencies where they reside.
