Licenciatura
Program in the Agricultural Sciences
Welcome!

Students graduate as Agronomists, earning a Licenciatura
degree, (between a B.S. and a M.S.) in the Agricultural Sciences.
The four-year program is broken down into three 15-week trimesters
each year.
The curriculum consists of activities and courses that cover specific
material in a logical and sequential manner. The first year introduces
concepts and abilities essential to agriculture and natural resources
on the farm level, as well as beginning to address the related sciences.
Students begin to develop a global vision of agriculture
and resources, taking social and economic factors into account while
focusing on the humid tropics. Basic intellectual abilities are
strengthened, as are manual and mechanical skills.
In the second year, students consolidate and deepen
their knowledge and skills in the fields of agriculture, natural
resources and sustainable farm management. They also continue to
develop basic concepts and abilities in the related sciences.
Third-year students have the opportunity to apply
their knowledge and skills in the sustainable management of a farm/business
in a rural community. The curriculum also strengthens students'
professional attitudes and skills to assure positive interactions
with farmers and rural community members. Academically, the third
year focuses on the development of social skills and a more in-depth
understanding of natural resource management and post-harvest systems
and processes.
During the fourth year, students must exhibit their intellectual
and professional abilities in analysis, synthesis, critical thinking
and creativity by identifying and solving agricultural and environmental
problems to enhance sustainable agriculture and natural resource
management processes. The learning process is focused on an agricultural
or agro-industrial business and local rural communities, and is
structured to provide students the opportunity to demonstrate their
professional abilities.
