DEAN OF ACADEMIC AFFAIRS

 

Position Description:
The Dean of Academic Affairs provides academic and administrative leadership to a dynamic, learner-centered undergraduate program in agricultural sciences and natural resources consisting of 400 students from 25 countries throughout the tropics of Latin America and Africa.  The Dean provides creative leadership, mentoring and faculty development to a multidisciplinary, international faculty to ensure the academic excellence of EARTH’s programs.  Responsibilities also include overseeing the institution’s academic support units and related budgets.  The Dean is expected to establish close working relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure quality academic programs.  The Dean will be a key member of an outstanding administrative team comprised of representatives from Student Affairs, Continuing Education and Outreach, Research, Admissions, Library Services and Computing Services charged with educating future’s leaders who will be recognized for their contributions to the sustainable development of the tropics.  The Dean reports to the Provost.

Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in field related to agriculture or natural resources.
  • Extensive experience in higher education.
  • Extensive experience in Latin America.
  • Administrative experience, including planning and managing budgets and personnel.
  • Collaborative leadership qualities and experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal relations.
  • Demonstrated excellence teaching at the university level, with knowledge and experience in experiential learning and learner-centered education.
  • Demonstrated commitment to students and working as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated commitment to collaborative decision making and consensus building.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to effectively communicate the college’s academic programs externally.
  • Complete fluency in English and Spanish.
