On February 27, EARTH University President José Zaglul presented at TEDx Pura Vida, an event that brings together Costa Rican thought leaders and entrepreneurs to stimulate dialogue and present a variety of ideas and projects worth sharing. The event was held at the National Auditorium in San José, Costa Rica.
President José’s inspirational speech was focused on his life story, specifically when he decided to leave Costa Rica and reconnect with his roots in Lebanon. He recalls, “When I lived in Lebanon I had the opportunity to see it transition from a peaceful country to a country at war. Just like Costa Rica, Lebanon was once considered ‘the Switzerland’ of its region and all of a sudden, before anyone realized what was happening, it was transformed into a nation of instability and armed conflict.”
Apart from the historical emphasis, part of his presentation focused on the importance of education in the development of young men and women today.
President José mentions, “Along with family, education in elementary schools, high schools and universities is the most important instrument in creating responsible citizens and instilling the fundamental values of love, respect and honesty in society.”
Lastly, José added a few words about the importance of love. “Love recognizes the essence of human beings regardless of their appearance, condition, abilities or limitations. It is the unconditional recognition and love for all people and all that surrounds us. Love is the most fundamental of values.”
linda sociedad costarricense.
